How can I view my historical performance?
You can access your trade account's historical performance by going to the “Trade” tab on your Sarwa app, and clicking the top-right icon. Under the there you will be able to see the historical performance of your Sarwa trade account in three graphs:
- Balance: displays your historical account balance and net deposits
- Returns: displays the historical return of your account for the selected timeframe
- Earnings: displays the total earnings for your account historically
Balance & Net Deposits
Account Balance: This shows your account balance over time, allowing you to understand historically how your account balance has changed based on deposits and withdrawals, as well as your performance in the market.
Net deposits: You can toggle net deposits on or off to be displayed historically by pressing on the setting on the graph axis. It reflects the cumulative net deposit you’ve made into your Sarwa Trade account at every point historically. (e.g., if you add $500 into you Sarwa Trade account your net deposits goes up $500, and if you withdraw $1,000 from your account net deposit goes down $1,000)
Earnings: When scrubbing on the graph you can also view your earnings at any historical point in time. Earnings is the total amount you’ve earned through investing and represents the difference between your Account Balance and your net deposits.
Returns
Return: This shows your Time-Weighted Returns, how your investments performed based on market movement, excluding deposits and withdrawals for the selected period. This makes TWR the most accurate way to evaluate how well your portfolio actually performed.
What does it mean excluding deposits and withdrawals?
Let’s take the following example:
Using the data in the table above we get the following for the period:
- Return = Period 1 Return x Period 2 Return -1 = (1-10%) x (1+5%)-1 = 0.9 x 1.1 -1 = - 5.5%
- Earnings = Account Balance - Net deposits = 61,950 - 60,000 = +$1,950
Your portfolio ended up with a profit of $1,950 but your actual return is -5.5%. That is because the time weighted return doesn’t factor in deposits and measure only the performance from the market.
Earnings
Earnings: This shows how much you’ve gained or lost from your investments over time in $ value. At each point in time, it calculates the difference between your account balance and total net deposits. The difference is your total profit or loss, including both sold investments and those still invested (i.e., realised and unrealised gains/losses).
